The stack, and the AI layer on top of it

The software engineering

  • JavaScript and TypeScript - the language and the type system
  • React - modern component-based front-ends
  • React Native - native iOS and Android applications
  • Node.js and Express - your own APIs and servers
  • MongoDB - data modeling and persistence
  • HTML and CSS, Flexbox, Grid and responsive layout
  • Git and GitHub, code review and collaboration
  • Authentication, security, deployment and production

The AI engineering

  • Claude Code - AI-assisted development on a real codebase
  • Prompt and context engineering for engineering work
  • Claude.md project files and progressive context disclosure
  • MCP integrations - connecting AI to your tools and data
  • LLM APIs - streaming, structured output, tool calling
  • RAG with embeddings and vector databases
  • Agentic patterns, evaluation and LLM-as-a-judge testing
  • Guardrails, prompt injection defence, cost and latency control

Tools change. We teach a stack and the judgement to pick the right tool for the job, so you can swap any one of them out and keep working.

Updated for the AI age

The developer job market changed shape. Typing code is no longer the scarce skill, and job descriptions now say so out loud. Teams expect a junior developer to arrive already working with AI assistants - and increasingly to be able to build AI features, not merely consume them.

That has produced two kinds of candidate who do not get hired. The first cannot work with AI at all, and competes against people who ship three features in the time they ship one. The second uses AI for everything and cannot explain, debug or secure a single line of what it produced - which any technical interview exposes in about ten minutes.

This bootcamp is built for the space between those two failures: real software engineering fundamentals, executed at AI speed, with the judgement to know when the machine is wrong.

Nothing was removed from the curriculum to make room for AI. The fundamentals are still the fundamentals. The AI layer sits on top of them, because without them it is worthless.

What makes this different from a traditional coding bootcamp

AI in the workflow, not bolted on

Every week uses AI at the point a working developer would actually use it - and skips it where writing the code yourself is how you learn. There is also a dedicated AI engineering week, because shipping AI features is now its own skill.

You must be able to explain your code

Nothing enters your repository that you cannot walk through line by line. This is the single rule that separates a developer who is faster with AI from one who is helpless without it.

You build AI, not just use it

LLM APIs, structured output, tool calling, embeddings, vector databases, RAG and agentic patterns - shipped as real features inside your own full-stack application.

Security review of generated code

Models reproduce the same vulnerabilities with impressive consistency. You learn to read generated code as an adversary - validation, authorisation, secrets, injection - before any of it ships.

Groups of six, every day

Small groups mean an instructor sees your code daily and catches the habits that would otherwise take a year of professional work to unlearn.

A documented AI workflow

You graduate with your own Claude.md project files, prompt patterns and review checklists - a reusable working method you can describe in an interview, not a folder of chat logs.

The AI engineering track in detail

This is the part of the curriculum that did not exist in a traditional coding bootcamp - and the part that answers the question every technical interviewer now asks.

AI: 01 How AI writes code, and how it fails

Tokens, context windows, training cutoffs and why a model invents libraries that do not exist. Understanding the mechanism is what turns an assistant from a slot machine into a tool you can rely on.

AI: 02 Prompt engineering for engineering work

Chain-of-thought, few-shot patterns, role framing and structured output formats - written for code, tests and refactors rather than for essays. How to get a consistent result instead of a lucky one.

AI: 03 Context engineering for a real codebase

Claude.md project files, progressive context disclosure and context window management, so an assistant working on week nine of your project still knows the decisions you made in week two.

AI: 04 MCP integrations and tool-connected assistants

Model Context Protocol integrations that connect an assistant to your database, your repository and your documentation, so it reads your real state instead of hallucinating a plausible version of it.

AI: 05 AI-assisted debugging and refactoring

Feeding an assistant a stack trace, a failing test or a legacy module and steering it to a real fix. Also the harder skill: recognising when it has confidently produced a change that makes things worse.

AI: 06 Reviewing and hardening AI-generated code

Models reproduce the same vulnerabilities with impressive consistency: missing input validation, injection, broken authorisation, leaked secrets. You learn to review generated code as an adversary before it ships.

AI: 07 Building with LLM APIs, RAG and vector databases

Streaming responses, structured output, tool calling, embeddings and retrieval-augmented generation over your own data - shipped as a real feature inside a real application, not as a demo notebook.

AI: 08 Evaluation, guardrails and cost control

LLM-as-a-judge evaluation, regression prompt suites, prompt injection defence, rate limits and token budgets. The engineering discipline that keeps an AI feature from becoming an unbounded production liability.

FAQ

Do I need prior coding experience to join?

No prior experience is required. We send you pre-course materials to study before the bootcamp begins — we estimate around 40 hours if you're starting from zero knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

Can I attend the bootcamp remotely?

Yes. The bootcamp is available both on campus in Barcelona and as a remote live option. Remote students join the same live sessions in real time with the same instructors and group.

What are the daily hours?

The bootcamp runs Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 18:00 CET. It is a full-time, intensive program — 360 hours of hands-on training over 9 weeks.

How many students are in each class?

Groups are capped at 6 students. This means you get direct, personalized attention from instructors every day — not a lecture hall experience.

Will I get a job after the bootcamp?

The curriculum is built around real hiring requirements. You will graduate with a portfolio of projects, and we provide career support including CV review, portfolio preparation, and interview coaching. Many of our graduates have gone on to work as developers at companies across Europe and beyond — you can read their stories on our website.

What programming languages and technologies will I learn?

On the software engineering side: JavaScript, TypeScript, React, React Native, Node.js, Express, MongoDB, HTML, CSS and Git. On the AI side: professional use of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, prompt and context engineering, Claude.md project files, MCP integrations, LLM APIs with streaming and tool calling, embeddings, vector databases, RAG, agentic patterns, and evaluation with guardrails and cost control.

Do I still learn real programming, or just how to prompt an AI?

You learn real programming. The fundamentals were not cut to make room for AI - you still write code by hand, read stack traces, model data and secure endpoints, and nothing goes into your repository that you cannot explain line by line. The AI layer sits on top of that foundation, because without it an AI assistant only helps you produce code you cannot maintain or defend in an interview.

Will I be able to build AI features, or only use AI to write code?

Both, and they are different skills. You use AI assistants throughout the bootcamp to work faster, and there is a dedicated AI engineering week where you ship AI as a product feature: working with LLM APIs, streaming, structured output and tool calling, then building retrieval-augmented generation over your own data with embeddings and a vector database, and evaluating it with LLM-as-a-judge checks, guardrails and cost budgets.

Which AI tools will I use?

Claude Code for AI-assisted development on a real codebase, the Claude API for the AI features you build, MCP integrations to connect assistants to your data and tools, and a vector database for retrieval. The point is not any single product - tools change. You learn a stack and the judgement to pick the right tool for the job, so you can swap any one of them out and keep working.

Is AI going to replace junior developers?

What is disappearing is the role of someone who only types code that a model can now produce in seconds. What teams are hiring for is a developer who understands systems, reviews and hardens generated code, and can build AI features into a product. That is exactly what this curriculum is built around.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Upon successful completion of the bootcamp you receive an industry-recognized certificate from Barcelona Code School.

Are scholarships available?

Yes, Barcelona Code School offers scholarships. Check the scholarships section on this page for current options and eligibility.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. You secure your spot with a registration prepayment of 580€ (10% of tuition). The remaining balance is split into two payments due before the course begins. We can also assist with student loan applications — contact us for a proforma invoice.

What computer would I need?

Any operating system will do, Mac, Windows or Linux. If you are thinking about buying a new one then the best choice would be an Apple laptop: Macbook, Macbook Air or Macbook Pro. On Windows laptop everything is doable as well, simply some things work slower on Windows but it's not going to prevent you from succeeding!

What is the language of this course?

English.

Do I have to speak Spanish?

For the course you do not need Spanish. Everybody at our school speak English. To feel comfortable in Barcelona Spanish would help but nowadays in most of the places local people do speak English.

What qualification I will get from this course?

If completed successfully you will become a junior full-stack developer. Meaning you will know how to build web apps and be able to apply for the entry developer's position.

Are there any accommodation options for the foreign students?

Make sure to check Uniplaces (use UP40BCS promo code to get 40% discount on their service fees), Spotahome and Barcelona home.

What about cost of living in Barcelona, how much will I spend apart from the course tuition?

Barcelona, compared with other metropolitan European cities, is quite affordable or even cheap place to live. According to the latest survey, the average cost of living for students in Barcelona is around 1000 Euros per month.

Expect to spend 500-1000€ to rent a room or 1000€ and up for the apartment, around 10€ for a lunch in a restaurant, 10€ for a public transport 10-ride pass.

How good would a typical graduate be after completing the course?

You will learn the skills to begin as a junior full-stack developer, will know how to build fully functional web apps and have a solid foundation to improve your expertise.

Is there a pre-course?

Yes. We send you materials to study to come prepared! We estimate it to take around 40 hours if you start from absolutely 0 level of knowledge of JavaScript, HTML and CSS.

How does your price compare to other schools?

It's safe to say that our price is within lower competitive range. We strive to provide the personalized approach thanks to smaller group size and attract highly qualified instructors motivated to share their expertise with students. You will love it, we guarantee!
